Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to promoting positive behavior in schools and other settings. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing desired behaviors rather than just punishing unwanted behaviors. PBIS uses a system of clear expectations, consistent rewards, and data-driven decision-making to create a more supportive and effective environment for behavior management. It is an approach that focuses on the emotional and behavioral learning of students, which leads to an increase in engagement and a decrease in problematic behavior over time (California Department of Education, 2017). PBIS offers a variety of interventions that are methodically applied to students based on their demonstrated level of need, and addresses environmental factors as they apply to development and improvement of behavior problems.
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
Restorative justice in schools is a way of handling conflicts and discipline that emphasizes repairing harm and rebuilding relationships rather than just punishing students. It's a bit like teaching life lessons. Here's a simple way to explain it:
"Restorative justice in schools is like giving students a chance to learn from their mistakes and make things right when they mess up. Instead of just punishing them, we bring everyone involved in a conflict together to talk, listen, and find solutions. It helps our children understand the impact of their actions and teaches them how to make amends and move forward in a more positive way."
